Saturday, 29th October 2011- YMCA KL, Brickfields - At 6.30a.m, boys started arriving to YMCA, preparing for another history making day. Once again, it is the Kuala Lumpur state games or better known as KulGames, held once in two years to bring boys and girls from every BB Company in KL together, for the pure reason of fellowship, sports and BB spirit.
After every boy has gathered, we left YMCA at 7.30a.m with 2 buses, heading towards Sentul. After an approximate 15 minutes of chatting and travelling, we arrived at SMK (L) Methodist Sentul, known also as the home ground for the 2nd Kuala Lumpur Company Boys’ Brigade. L/Cpl Chan Kai Sum led the company into their respective platoons in the parking lot. Other companies present included 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th and 12th KL. The 4th KL Girls’ Brigade also joint us in Captain Ball. Corporal Wong Kin Phan then led 3rd KL into attention position to greet our company’s Honorary Captain, Mr. Tony Chow.
It was already 8.10a.m as the PA present, CrossRoad Productions, were setting up with sponsors such as Gardenia whom provided us with a variety of breads, Methodist College for the venue, KL Stedfast Association for sponsoring the medals and Pilot for sponsoring pens for the boys and girls. The basketball team, led by Edgar Koh, was given a last prep by their trainer, Mr. Ian Goh who is a former member of 3rd KL member. At 8.50a.m the MC of the event briefed everyone for the day and got us into much excitement.
Finally at 9.00a.m it was the official opening ceremony of KulGames Twenty Eleven. Everyone started off with the singing of our national anthem, Negaraku. Followed by the KulGames Pledge led by S/Sgt Benny Tham from 1st KL BB. Opening prayer was led by Mr. Francis Cheong (BB Asia Executive Secretary). KL State Commissioner, Mr. Tony Chow (KL State Commissioner and 3rd KL Hon Capt) addressed KUL Games. He thanked the school for providing the place for the event and the organizing committee, led by Mr. Terence Tay (KL State Treasurer and 3rd KL Lt). Principle of MBS Sentul, Mr. Ong Boon Puah then gave a speech congratulating the organizing committee and finally, declared KUL Games 2011 official. Mr. Tony Chow then presented an appreciation for Mr. Ong Boon Puah. A group photo was taken in the parking lot.
At 9.20a.m everyone was dismissed to their respective companies to prepare for the games. Corporal Wong Kin Phan grouped the company and separated everyone into their sports. From 9.30a.m till 12p.m, various games such as Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Captain Ball and even International Chess took place in the school. It can be seen that the competitive spirit is there in 3rd KL boys as well as other companies. Every team strived to oust their opponents both physically and mentally.

Then at 12.00p.m, it was lunch and the juniors went to the school canteen first followed by the seniors. We were given rice, vegetables, curry and tofu for the meal with orange juice and ice lemon tea for the drinks. Some boys took this time to rest well as there were some matches that were not over yet. Others just had a great time of fellowship with each other. Only at 1.00p.m some games already continued such as International chess and Chinese chess. Then at 3.00p.m it was the final round for the Volleyball game and 3rd KL was going to face 1st KL! It was filled with intense moments as both teams tried to hit the ball into a bad position for the opposing team. 3rd KL then finally with an amazing performance, came out as the champion for the Volleyball game. Tug-A-Rope was the last event for the day, 1st KL won the champion placing, followed by 4th KL, then 3rd KL.

Lastly at 4.30p.m it was the prize-giving and closing ceremony for KUL Games 2011. But before that, as usual as BB members, we helped to clean up the place. Winners of respective games went on stage proudly and were awarded their hard-earned medals. The overall champion trophy, sadly, could not be defended by 3rd KL BB and was won by 1st KL BB. After that Mr. Cheong Sing Yuen (former KL State Commissioner & 1st KL Hon Capt) closed the event in prayer, followed by the singing of BB Vesper.
Before leaving the games venue, our Captain has these words for us. “Be humble, use our talents to bless others and learn from others.” Although 3rd KL BB did not defend the overall champion this year, we still came back with some medals… so, heads up everyone!
KulGames Twenty Eleven has finally ended. Will the next KulGames be as exciting? Will 3rd KL be able to recapture the Overall Champion Trophy from 1st KL? Only time will tell.
